The coronavirus has had a major impact on school learning, but according to a new report, it’s going to have a major financial impact too.
According to the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials, known as PASBO, school districts across the state could collectively lose about $1 billion in local tax revenue.
“Every school district tax source and other non-tax revenue will suffer a precipitous decline for the upcoming school year,” according to Dr. Timothy J. Shrom, PASBO director of research, who developed the PASBO projection with Dr. Andrew Armagost, PASBO research and advocacy manager.
The data shows that the reduction in local revenue in the Butler Area School District could be anywhere in between $2.6 to $3.2 million.
The organization based the projects off of the 2008 Great Recession.
