Before Butler student Aiden Lutz died in a tragic accident last year, he was working on his scout project, which his friends continued in his honor.
Aiden was beginning to move up his rank in the scouts and was getting ready to start his Eagle Scout project.
The idea was to build three little free library boxes where anyone could take or leave books. Although Aiden has passed the boxes are being put up by his fellow scout troops.
Jeff Orsborn is the Scout Master for Aiden’s former troop and he sees this project as helping with the healing process for Aiden’s former scouts and remembering their friend.
“I don’t want to say closure, because there will never be closure. To get them working on something in the memory of Aiden, I think it’s helped in the healing process,” Orsborn said. “I know it’s been seven months since his passing, but I thought it was good for them to work together. They were building things and sharing fond memories of Aiden.”
The libraries will be outside Northwest Elementary, where Aiden’s mother teaches, and McQuistion Elementary School, where Aiden went to school, and a third to be put up and dedicated in August.
The little libraries were built by donations from members of the community, from books to the materials to build the stands.
