Legislation to honor American women who joined the workforce to support the war effort during World War II has been signed into law.
The Rosie the Riveter Congressional Gold Medal Act was sponsored by Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey.
According to Casey, these women who answered their country’s call and learned new skills like building vehicles, weapons, and ammunition crucial to the war effort will be awarded Congressional Gold Medals.
Nearly one out of every four married women worked outside the home by the end of the war, with over 300,000 in the aircraft industry alone.
