A local state senator is making his pitch for a new “mini-mill” to come to Western Pennsylvania.
U.S. Steel announced plans that they were looking at potential locations to build a $3 billion mini-mill in the near future. Nucor Corporation also said they were looking at building a mill as well.
State Senator Joe Pittman is now calling on the governor to aggressively promote Indiana and Armstrong counties as possible location for these steel mills.
Pittman believes the recent decision to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative will result in job losses in his district, and believes a mill like this could offset those losses.
