A local lawmaker’s bills aiming to help physician assistants is one step closer to becoming law.
Senator Joe Pittman says that many schools have physician assistantship programs, but that a number of P.A.’s leave after graduation.
Pittman says one of the bills will allow P.A.’s to provide care under a physician’s supervision, instead of direction.
The other will allow doctors to oversee more P.A.’s rather than the current four.
Pittman argues this will make healthcare better overall in the state.
“What we’re looking to do here is update the manner in which physician assistants practice in our Commonwealth,” Pittman said.
Both bills now head to Governor Tom Wolf’s desk.
