A local lawmaker is continuing the effort to advance a bill that would mandate legislative approval before the state could enter into an agreement that would limit the amount of carbon dioxide emissions.
Earlier this week the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee approved Senate Bill 119 which was introduced by Republican State Senator Joe Pittman and would create the Pennsylvania Carbon Dioxide Cap and Trade Authorization Act.
Pittman believes that joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative as Governor Tom Wolf has directed the state Department of Environmental Protection would devastate Pennsylvania’s electric generation industry and result in the loss of thousands of jobs.
Last year Governor Wolf vetoed House Bill 2025 which had bipartisan support and has similar language to the current bill.
