Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey made an argument to his colleagues yesterday, saying the proposed $2,000 stimulus checks weren’t necessary for all Americans.
“Now, we’re being told that after passing another extraordinary bill, this one almost $1 trillion and including $600 per person, that that’s not enough, we need to $2,000 per person” Toomey said in a speech on the Senate floor. “Despite the fact, that we know for sure– we know for a fact– that the large majority of those checks are going to go to people with no lost income.”
Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania said he’s in favor of the additional money for Americans.
It’s unclear if the proposal that was passed by the House will get a vote in the Senate.
Sen. Pat Toomey objects to $2000 checks: “We need to do $2,000 per person, despite the fact that we know for sure — we know for a fact — that the large majority of those checks are going to go to people who had no lost income? How does that make any sense at all?” pic.twitter.com/8LnRBD6Wfa
