Pennsylvania lawmakers are weighing in on President Biden’s decision to forgive some student loan payments.
Yesterday the President announced that the government would cancel in between $10,000 to $20,000 in student loans for individuals making less than $125,000 per year. In order to receive the $20,000 in relief, students must have been awarded a PELL grant when they went to school.
Democratic Senator Bob Casey supported the move saying that this “eased the burden for millions of Americans who are struggling under the weight of their student debt.”
Republican Senator Pat Toomey called the decision a “student loan bailout scheme” that “will have wide-reaching, negative ramifications across America’s economy.”
