A local man has entered a guilty plea to federal drug and gun charges.
According to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice, 45-year-old Durrell Fortson of Seven Fields pled guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and one count possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Fortson’s vehicle was stopped by law enforcement in November of 2022 and a K-9 alerted the officer to the presence of a controlled substance. A search revealed two gallon sized bags of cocaine in an air mattress box in the trunk. Fortson also possessed a loaded .40 caliber handgun under the driver’s seat later determined to have been stolen.
Fortson will be sentenced in June to up to 25 years in prison as well as a possible fine of over $1 million.
