An event at Slippery Rock University, bringing awareness to sexual assault, begins Tuesday.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Victim Outreach Center at the university is presenting Exhale: A Night of Art, Healing, and Expression. This will be held at the Smith Student Center Ballroom from 6-8pm.
The main focus will be the interactive exhibit the Clothesline Project, in which t-shirts will be displayed showing messages of hope and unity.
Students are encouraged to bring a t-shirt with uplifting messages on them to be part of the display.
Statistics show that 81% of women, 43% of men, and almost half of transgender adults will report some form of sexual harassment or assault in their lifetime.
There is a crisis hotline for those seeking help. It is 1-800-400-8551 or you can visit the website of www.voicebutlercounty.org.
