Governor Josh Shapiro has joined another multistate lawsuit challenging proposed federal funding cuts.
The lawsuit filed by Pennsylvania and 25 other states along with the District of Columbia seeks to block the Trump administration’s decision to cut AmeriCorps programs including over $6 million impacting 26 programs across the state.
Locally, this decision would impact the Family Service Corps of Butler Memorial Hospital which supports 90 veterans who are currently receiving peer assistance with mental illness and addiction problems. AmeriCorps also helps with disaster relief, tutoring for students, and maintenance of outdoor recreation areas like parks and trails.
Last month Governor Shapiro successfully brought suit against the Trump Administration over the termination of federal health grants.
