Pennsylvania’s attorney general has announced a settlement with JUUL Labs, Inc—a company that manufactures and sells e-cigarettes.
Josh Shapiro says in a statement that JUUL targeted young people and deceived consumers about the safety of their product.
The settlement was for nearly $39 million and includes a requirement that JUUL will not target sales to youth, will disclose the amount of nicotine in their products, and will maintain a retailer compliance program.
The money from this settlement will be paid to the PA Department of Health, Bureau of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction to fund programs designed to reduce or eliminate tobacco-related death or disease.
Shapiro estimates that around 13% of students in the state have vaped in the past month.
