Ahead of Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget address next week, it appears he’ll be asking for more public transportation funding.
Shapiro said Monday that he is seeking a 1.75 percent increase in funding of public transportation, which works out to just over $280 million each year.
He says that would be the first time in over a decade that public transit would get a funding bump.
Shapiro said there would be no new taxes, instead they would divert money from the state’s general fund to transportation.
There was no specific details released on how much local agencies, like Butler Transit, would receive in the proposed bump.
