The Democratic candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania spoke about his plans and priorities during a stop in Butler Wednesday afternoon.
Josh Shapiro visited the headquarters of the Butler County Democrats on West Jefferson Street in downtown Butler to discuss how he would combat rising costs.
Shapiro’s three part plan to cut taxes, lower costs, and give money back to residents includes eliminating the state’s cell phone tax, expanding the property tax and rent rebate program, and enacting a gas tax refund for drivers. He also remains committed to protecting the democratic process.
“We have to protect our democracy. It’s the foundation for everything else. You want to figure out how to invest in schools? You have to have a healthy democracy. You want to protect reproductive rights? You want to protect the right of people to join a union? You’ve got to protect our democracy. We’ve got fundamentally different views in this election between me and my opponents and the stakes could not be higher.”
Shapiro is running unopposed in the primary election next month. He is currently serving his second term as the state’s Attorney General after first taking office in 2017.
