Shirley L. Barnhart, 87, of Chicora, a resident of the Chicora Medical Center, went to join her husband and family in their heavenly home early Saturday morning, February 19, 2022.
Shirley was born in Fairview on August 20, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Cecil H. and Myrtle A. Bowser Reep.
She was a 1952 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School and was of the Methodist faith. Shirley enjoyed crocheting, reading, working puzzle books, the company of family and friends, and in her earlier years, singing with her sisters.
She had been employed for nearly 20 years at the cafeteria at Chicora Elementary School.
She married Arthur C. “Tex” Barnhart on December 10, 1954. Mr. Barnhart preceded her in death on March 16, 2015.
She is survived by her children, Sharon L. McElravy and Francis A. “Frank” Barnhart, both of Karns City, and Stephen Barnhart and his wife, Shelley, of Chicora; five grandchildren; three step grandsons, as well as a number of great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and step great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Worley of Butler and Dolores “Honey” Barnhart of Oklahoma; a brother-in-law, James Ferris of Texas, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a step great grandson, and a son-in-law, Randy McElravy. Shirley was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by her ten siblings, Katherine Summerville, Charles “Jack” Reep, Claire “Tay” Reep, Jean Marie Clark, Bertha May Christie McKinney, Doris M. Morrow, Veva I. Lindsay, Mabel A. Corteville, Wanda Lou Daugherty, and William H. Reep, as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday where a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Lewis, pastor of the Chicora United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
