It was treacherous conditions for drivers last night, but as of this morning most of the main roads are in pretty good shape.
Butler’s PennDOT Maintenance Manager Mike Mattis says major roadways are fairly clear and that crews will be working on side streets for the rest of the day.
“We’ll be cleaning up the secondary and back roads probably into our second shift that comes in during the afternoon,” Mattis said. “With the sun possibly coming out and clearing things up and clean up. We’re expecting roads to be clear hopefully by the evening.”
Mattis said PennDOT had all of their 42 trucks operating Wednesday and will continue to have them out today.
Overall, he said despite some accidents no major issues were reported.
“We had a 45 mile per hour restrictions on I-79. We didn’t have any major issues that I’m aware of,” Mattis said. “We also didn’t see a lot of traffic over the nighttime hours, which is good. If people didn’t have to go out, they weren’t doing that.”
Mattis said he’s heard reports of more than a foot of snow in some higher elevated areas of the county.
Mattis also wanted to thank the public for respecting PennDOT trucks while they were plowing the roads.
“I do appreciate the public staying back from our plow trucks when they saw them, and staying home if they didn’t have to come out,” Mattis said. “It made our job easier.”
