The Slippery Rock University football team fell on the road to Kutztown on Saturday, losing by a final of 42-34.
Quarterback Tanner Garry led the Rock offense with 307 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. With Saturday’s performance, Garry now holds the school’s single season record for touchdown passes (32) and completions (268). Saturday’s game was Garry’s eighth game with at least 300 yards passing, which is another school record.
SRU running back Isiah Neely finished with 71 yards rushing and one touchdown, and finishes his career with over 2,000 yards rushing. Receiver Marcus Johnson finished with six receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown, and ended the season with 1,993 all purpose yards. With seven more yards, Johnson would have become the first 2,000 all purpose yard athlete in school history. He also tied the school record for career touchdown receptions with 28. Defensively, Marcus Martin recovered a fumble and finished with 1.5 sacks on Saturday.
Although Slippery Rock ended the 2017 regular season with a loss and an 8-3 overall record, there is still a chance that the team can qualify for the NCAA National Playoffs. The NCAA will announce the playoff bracket on Sunday at 5pm.
