The Slippery Rock University football team dropped their second consecutive game on Saturday, losing on the road to Edinboro by a final of 49-39.
Slippery Rock was ranked #17 nationally going into Saturday’s game, and the team was looking to bounce back from a homecoming loss to #3 IUP. Rock quarterback Tanner Garry broke school records in passing attempts with 61, completions with 41, and first downs with 28. He also finished with 488 yards passing and three touchdowns. Receiver Marcus Johnson finished with 14 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Tavarus Sample led the team with 11 tackles, and Marcus Martin finished with three tackles, three quarterback knockdowns, and four quarterback hurries.
The first regional rankings of the 2017 season will be released on Monday. Slippery Rock will need to be one of the top seven teams in Super Region One at the season’s end to claim a spot in the national playoffs.
