A Slippery Rock University administrator has been officially sworn in as a member of a new group devoted to attracting and retaining residents to rural areas.
Slippery Rock University President Dr. Karen Riley received her official introduction as one of two local residents on the Pennsylvania Rural Population Revitalization Commission at the PA Farm Show last week.
This commission, a total of 16 people selected by Governor Josh Shapiro, will also address the unique challenges faced by rural communities due to demographic shifts through medium and long-term planning at county, regional, and state levels.
In her capacity representing the PA System of Higher Education, Riley will be working alongside members of the PA Senate and House as well as other organizations dedicated to rural development including Butler County Chamber of Commerce President Jordan Grady.
