Girls wrestling will be coming to the Slippery Rock School District in the coming weeks after the Slippery Rock School Board approved the motion.
Going into the first season there could be around 15 girls on the inaugural team. Currently there are seven middle school girls and three high school freshman girls who could play.
Thanks to the approval of the school board, the boys and girls schedule will not be impacting by the PIAA point system that limits regular season participation.
“Once the PIAA sanction girls wrestling, Slippery Rock Athletic Director Brienna Simons said. “I knew that it was only a matter of time that my community would push for it. Just because of the amount of girls and the participation numbers in our youth program.”
Simons says there is upwards of 50 students in the youth program.
