New data shows that there’s a growing number of state residents who are enrolling for food stamps.
It’s also known as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program and it’s seen an increase in enrollment for seven consecutive months.
That number is now up to nearly 1.9 million Pennsylvanians in the program—that’s about 140,000 more than there were in March 2020.
Experts cannot point to exactly one particular factor as to why that number is growing, but say increasing food prices could be one reason why there’s been an increase in enrollment.
