Soldon William Anthony, 94, formerly of Chicora, entered into rest on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the home of his daughter, Linda F. Anthony Goode in California where he resided for the previous eight months.
Soldon, an only child was born to John and Are (Reynolds) Anthony on July 30, 1923 in Pulaski, Tennessee. Soldon completed his high school education in Chattanooga, TN and was drafted into the United States Army on April 1, 1943 and was honorably discharged on January 18, 1945. He had served as an engineer and general clerk. He received recognition for serving in the American Theater, the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater. He received a Bronze service star during the Asiatic Pacific Theater conflict. A medal of good conduct for the WW II Victory was also granted. Soldon shared numerous stories of his military duties when in France, Belgium, Germany and the Pacific.
As a young man, prior to his service in WWII, he married Evelyn Winton and after retiring from military duties, they settled in Pennsylvania. His employment history was with US Steel as a supervisor among other job titles.
Through the years, Soldon maintained his religious foundation with a past membership in the Shiloh Baptist Church in Butler. Many of his fellow worshippers saw him as a gentle and kind man. His values, accomplishments and character validate this claim.
Soldon was preceded in death by his loving wife of seventy one years, Evelyn on September 30, 2014. He leaves his daughter, Linda, to cherish his memory along with his numerous friends.
Friends will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler on Tuesday, May 1st from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 2nd at 11 AM.
