The South Butler County School Board has approved a revised Reopening Health and Safety Plan that would see students attend five days a week this fall as long as the county remains in the green phase.
According to Superintendent Dr. David Foley, in the absence of clear direction from the state, this plan is modeled on a Bucks County plan. That plan does not include daily temperature checks for all students and staff as long as the Butler County is in the green phase.
If the county would be shifted back into the yellow phase, a hybrid plan to utilize remote learning would be implemented. A positive COVID test result from a student or staff member would not result in the shutdown of the school. No decision has been made about requiring masks but the district is having face shields made for all students and staff.
The school board approved this plan unanimously after receiving large amounts of feedback from concerned parents about difficulties families could have with the previous plan which centered on students in school two days each week and learning remotely the rest of the time.
This plan will now be submitted to the state Department of Education but it will be revisited next month for any possible changes or updates. The plan will also be posted on the district’s website for public review. Finally, the board modified the district calendar for next year to shift the first day of classes for students to Monday, August 31st.
