The South Butler School District is crediting the person who used an early warning system with avoiding a potential threat to the safety of students and staff.
In a letter to parents on Monday, Superintendent Dr. David Foley said the district received a Safe2SaySomething alert about a threat made on social media over the weekend.
The threat was posted by a Knoch High School student and a classmate took a screenshot of the post in order to report it through the system. PA State Police Troopers investigated the situation and visited the home of the poster to confirm that person was acting on their own.
The investigation allowed District administration and school police to feel confident in the decision to allow students to attend school Monday. The student that posted the threat has been cited for Disorderly Conduct and will also face unspecified school discipline.
