The South Butler County School District continues to use grant money to make improvements for technology available to students.
At the Wednesday night meeting, the school board approved the purchase of 300 new Chromebook computers from Troxell at a cost of nearly $72,000. The board also approved a buyout proposal from Acer Financial for nearly $57,000 to keep computers that had been leased.
South Butler is currently dedicating about $80,000 annually to pay for the Chromebooks. That money is coming from a $400,000 grant that was divided between technology and COVID-related safety measures.
These new agreements will allow for all students in 6th through 12th grades to have their own Chromebook computer. The district also got a good deal to allow for additional computers to be available in case families have problems with the first computer.
