The South Butler County School District will allow students to participate in an E-Sports Club. E-Sports stands for electronic sports.
E-Sports take video gaming to another level with organized, competitive gameplay between two teams governed by a strict set of rules and guidelines. Traditional sports skills such as teamwork, communication, creativity, and leadership are also taught in e-sports.
Students ages 13 and older who would like to participate will pay the district’s $25 club participation fee as well as be subject to the district’s $30 drug screening policy. The cost to the district for each student per season is $64.
All games offered to high school students for competition purposes are either rated “T for Teen” which means they are appropriate for kids 13 and older or “E for Everyone” which means they are games for all ages.
This club will begin competition in the spring of 2020.
