A local organization recently received statewide recognition for innovative planning and sound land use practices.
The Southwest Butler Stormwater Planning Group was named as winner of a Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence earlier this week.
This group began with a meeting called by Butler County Commissioners in 2019 of municipalities impacted by repeated flooding. Kelly Robertson, Executive Director of Governor’s Center for Local Government Services at the Department for Conservation and Economic Development, explains more about what came next.
“10 municipalities and the county conducted a stormwater meeting that identified priority projects. Since that meeting, the group has approved the study’s recommendations and began a process to amend local recommendations and such municipalities to pursue projects that would benefit the region,” Robertson said.
A total of 28 municipalities, organizations, or individuals received an award as part of the 27th annual recognition this year.
