The Atlanta Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 last night in the opening game of a four-game series. Pirate rookie outfielder Jack Suwinski once again produced the only run for the Bucs with his eighth home run of the season. He leads all rookies with eight home runs this season. JT Brubaker allowed all three Braves runs and took the loss. His record fell to 0-6.
The Pirates continue their series with the Braves tonight at 7:20pm. WISR pre-game begins at 6:55pm.

Pirates top pitching prospect Quinn Priester made his first appearance of the season Thursday throwing three scoreless innings for the Bradenton Marauders. Three relievers followed Priester and combined for a no-hitter, with Bradenton winning 3-0 over Clearwater in the Class A Florida State League. Priester missed the beginning of the season with an injury.
NASCAR will race the road course in Sonoma, California this weekend. Hear the Cup Series race Sunday beginning at 3pm on WBUT.
The Belmont Stakes, the final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown will be run in New York Saturday evening.
The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the New York Rangers 3-1 last night at Madison Square Garden and have taken a 3-2 series lead. The Lightning host the Rangers for Game 6 of their Eastern Conference Final Saturday at 8pm.
The Boston Celtics host the Golden State Warriors for Game 4 of the NBA Final tonight at 9pm. The Celtics lead the series 2-1.
The PGA Tour is standing firm on players who have decided to try the new Saudi-funded golf league, with commissioner Jay Monahan announcing Thursday that the players who have chosen to play in it are longer eligible to on the tour. Players who resigned from the PGA Tour will not be welcomed back, and those who did not resign are now suspended.

PIAA Softball Playoffs:
–Seneca Valley defeated Quakertown 1-0 in the Class 6A Quarterfinals. The Raiders will face Pennsbury Monday in the state Semifinals. It is Seneca Valley’s first appearance in the state Semifinals since 1992. Pennsbury eliminated North Allegheny 10-2.
–Armstrong defeated Central Mountain 13-5 in the 5A Quarterfinals. The River Hawks will meet Penn-Trafford Monday in the Semifinals.
–Karns City fell to Avonworth 7-4 in the Class 3A Quarterfinals.
The Mars Boys Lacrosse team will face Marple Newton Saturday after 2pm in West Chester in the PIAA Class 2A championship match. They are attempting to become the first-ever WPIAL team to win a Lacrosse title.
BC3 golfer Troy Loughry is in position to become a First-Team All-American today heading into the final round of the National Junior College Division III golf tournament in New York. Loughry moved into fifth place overall after a 1-over 73 Thursday. He is two strokes from second overall, and six shots out of first place. The top 18 golfers earn All-American status. The BC3 team remains in seventh place.
