Steelers Kick Off Training Camp in the Heat
The Pittsburgh Steelers opened their training camp at Saint Vincent College on Thursday, and head coach Mike Tomlin wasted no time in testing his squad’s mettle. After a one-year experiment with morning practices, all weekday sessions this summer are back to an afternoon start time of 1:55 p.m.
Temperatures soared to 91 degrees for the initial workout, prompting Tomlin to cut the session a half-hour short as the team began its heat acclimation period. Players will continue their acclimation until Tuesday, when they’ll finally don pads for full-contact drills.
Pirates Host Diamondbacks at PNC Park
The Pittsburgh Pirates are in action tonight at PNC Park, kicking off a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. The Pirates, holding a 42-61 record, will send Mike Burrows (1-3) to the mound, while the Diamondbacks (50-53) counter with Ryne Nelson (6-2).
Riverhounds on the Road
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC are on the road tonight for a USL Cup group stage match against the Portland Hearts of Pine. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM EDT at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland. The Hounds will return home on Tuesday, July 29th, to face Miami FC at Highmark Stadium.
