After disagreements with local government officials, the Oktoberfest hosted by the Sprankle family is making a move.
After Saxonburg was looking at ordinances that would make Oktoberfest a challenge and problems with another township at their woodlands location, the Sprankles partnered with Lernerville Speedway for what Doug Sprankle believes could be the biggest Oktoberfest in the east coast.
“By having it at Lernerville, as long as weather cooperates, we think it will be one of the biggest Oktoberfests in Pennsylvania or even the east coast,” Sprankle said.
Sprankle also said one of the reasons for the changes has been the growth of the festival.
“Last year, we had 30,000. At some point you have to make a decision if you want to stay small and do it your way, like Frank Sinatra, or do you want to grow with partners to help you take it to the next level,” Sprankle said.
Octoberfest this year will kick off at the Lernerville Speedway from September 6th to the 8th. There will be over 100 venders, the most in six year history of Oktoberfest.
