The owner of a local grocery store owner has purchased a large portion of land to host events and educate people on agriculture.
Doug Sprankle is the owner of Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market, and he along with his brother, purchased 40 acres of land in Winfield Township. They will be moving the Octoberfest event they host every year to this property. But that isn’t the only reason for buying the land.
Sprankle’s father came from a long history of farming and raising horses. Doug has always wanted to own a family farm and buying this plot of land provided that opportunity.
But this land won’t just be a farm and it won’t just be a place to host events. It’ll be place to inform and teach people about agriculture.
“We’ll also incorporate a lot of agriculture background stuff, including a big hay field. There’s a wooded area, where we can focus on forestry,” Sprankle said. “In the front we’re going to try to create an orchard and things like that. So when you come to events, you can also see the agricultural side of the area and celebrate that as well.”
The first event will be May 4 and they will be paring with a non-profit that takes terminally-ill children on the hunt of a lifetime.
