The Slippery Rock University football team received the #1 seed in Super Region One Sunday when the NCAA announced the brackets for the Division II playoffs. 28 teams compete for the national title, and The Rock will be one of four teams receiving a first-round “bye” when the games begin this weekend. Slippery Rock will host a game November 30th at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Their opponent will be the winner of the IUP-Shepherd game this Saturday.
The PSAC landed five teams among the seven playoff teams in Super Region One. Kutztown is the #2 seed. IUP and Shepherd are #4 and #5. West Chester received the final spot in the region at #7.
–Slippery Rock defeated Kutztown 37-35 to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship Saturday in Eastern Pennsylvania. The Rock scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to comeback from a 35-21 deficit. Rock quarterback Roland Rivers III was the game’s Most Valuable Player. Rivers had more than 400 yards of total offense.
–IUP defeated Shippensburg 54-24 to complete a 10-1 regular season.
–West Chester defeated Cal 20-19 when the Vulcans went for the win with a two-point conversion attempt after scoring with no time remaining in the game.
