The Slippery Rock University football team moved up to #8 this week in the latest Amercian Football Coaches Association national rankings. It is their highest ranking of the season. The Rock also remained #2 in the latest NCAA regional rankings, with this week’s opponent, Kutztown remaining #1. Slippery Rock will visit Kutztown in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship game, with the top overall ranking in Super Region One on the line. The top seed receives a first-round playoff “bye”.
Despite being upset at home by Glenville State Saturday, Notre Dame College of Ohio remained in the #3 spot, followed by IUP, who remain fourth.
Two Slippery Rock players were honored by the PSAC this week. Quarterback Roland Rivers III was named Western Division Offensive Player of the Week. Kicker Jake Chapla was named Special Teams Athlete of the Week. Rivers set the SRU single season and career touchdown marks in The Rock’s 56-7 victory over Gannon. Chapla established the new career point total in the state.
