February is Black History Month and Slippery Rock University has several events scheduled to mark the occasion.
The theme of “Empowered From Our Roots” will give students the opportunity to explore Civil Rights accomplishments, while also discussing issues of inequality today.
More than twenty events will be presented throughout the month, beginning with a kickoff reception at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the Smith Student Center Theater. Other events will include the Legacy Motown Revue with Sound Express on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m., Black History Month Jeopardy and Bingo on Feb. 7-8 and a NAACP Founders Day Celebration on Feb. 12.
Other activities include movie viewings and discussions, African dance lessons, soul food tasting, open mic night and the Ebony Ball Showcase.
