A Western Pennsylvania native will present a talk on his experiences this week at Slippery Rock University as a former CIA officer and whistleblower.
SRU’s Department of Criminology and Security Studies and the Frederick Douglas Institute are hosting John Kiriakou for a lecture titled “Saying No to Torture and the Price of Whistleblowing.” The event is set for Wednesday in Swope Music Hall beginning at 7 p.m.
Kiriakou grew up in New Castle and served nearly two years in a federal prison for passing classified information to a reporter. In 2007, he told ABC News that the torture of prisoners was official U.S. government policy. Kiriakou is currently a columnist, radio talk show host and author.
This presentation is free and open to the public.
