Slippery Rock University and a couple of state agencies are teaming up to remind students and families that the deadline to apply for federal financial aid in the upcoming year is fast approaching.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education and Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) stopped at SRU to promote their PA FAFSA Go! Initiative.
“Finishing the FAFSA for high school seniors is extraordinarily important. It’s a gateway to higher education. It often meets that gap that are students face and without many students in the Commonwealth and beyond would not have access to higher edcuation,” Slippery Rock University President Dr. Bill Behre said.
The FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid is required to apply for federal grants, work-study programs, and loans to pay for college as well as Pennsylvania state grants.
“We’ve had great success and consistently see that over 90 percent of our incoming freshmen file the FAFSA and file on time. A large component of this is peer-to-peer engagement using our FAFSA Go Team,” SRU Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships Alyssa Dobson said.
The 2023-24 FAFSA became available October 1st with the earliest deadlines usually specific to college financial aid offices. Visit the Federal Student Aid website or the website of the PHEAA for more information.
