Slippery Rock University is offering help to international students who may be at risk due to a recent decision that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency will enforce visa regulations.
According to a letter written by SRU President Dr. William Behre to the community, international students would be prohibited from remaining at a college or university they are attending if classes are offered exclusively in an online format. A temporary exemption was granted to this rule during the spring and summer semesters due to the pandemic.
In addition to telling international students that they are cherished and valued, Behre encouraged international students to enroll in multimodal courses for the fall semester which he described as “hybrid education, which is allowable under current regulations”.
The SRU Office for Global Engagement will reach out regularly to international students about this policy and enforcement so international students are asked to pay special attention to emails from this office for additional specific guidance.
