Slippery Rock University will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1972-74 football teams that won three consecutive conference titles Novmber 16th during The Rock’s final regular season home game. Slippery Rock will celebrate a dominant three-year run that began in 1972 and concluded in 1974 with three straight PSAC titles. The Rock teams coached by Bob DiSpirito, won 25 games over that three-year run with at least eight wins in each of the three seasons. SRU took down West Chester in all three of those state championship games, winning at home in 1972 and 1974 and winning on the road in 1973. Former head coach Dr. George Mihalik was the quarterback of two of those championship teams.
Members of the football teams from 1972, 1973 and 1974 have been invited to attend the weekend events surrounding the game, which is scheduled to be Bloomsburg, or could be the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship game.
