Slippery Rock University will soon officially beginning the search for the school’s next president.
According to SRU trustee Jeff Smith who what involved in the last president search in 2018, the first step is creating a search committee.
“That search committee consists of three trustees that the chairman of the trustees appoints. There’s an executive from the university, two faculty members on it, two non-instructional people, a student, an alum, and up to three other members from the university community will be selected,” Smith said.
Additionally, before the end of the spring semester a search consultant is expected to be chosen so that interested candidates can apply over the summer. The committee will then review those applications in the fall before choosing seven to 10 candidates who will be invited to interview for the position. The public will also have the chance to be involved in the search process.
“It’s going to be a very transparent process with an opportunity for a lot of public involvement. The last search we had public meetings where people could come and meet the candidates. It’ll be the same thing moving forward,” Smith said.
The search committee will then recommend two candidates for vote by the council of trustees around next year at this time. Recommendations will then be sent to the State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors who will interview them and make the final choice.
Current SRU President Bill Behre will retire at the end of June 2023 after fulfilling his five year contract.
