Slippery Rock University’s infamous “bat house” has been relocated.
Last week, the home was picked up and moved from its original campus location near the Ski Lodge to the Macoskey Center.
Officials say ideally, a bat house should be located where it receives six to eight hours of direct sunlight; where a diversity of habitats (including forest, fields and wetlands exist); and be within 10-30 years of a tree line.
Moving the house to the Macoskey Center should make it more likely that bats will find the house attractive due to these additional conditions being met.
The bat house was built in 2003 to provide students with opportunities to study colonization, foraging and flight habits of the nocturnal mammals.
