The St. Vincent DePaul store at the Greater Butler Mart is making a plea to the community to stop putting garbage at their drop off facility.
Terry Karenbauer is with the local non-profit and said over the past couple of weeks, there has been a significant amount of items placed behind the store.
“We’re trying to provide a good service for the community, and here people are just using it as a dumpster outside,” Karenbauer said. “They just drop things off during off-hours like old couches and mattresses. And it’s got to be cleaned up.”
Karenbauer says the problem has gotten so bad they had to rent a dumpster to toss the items away.
“We had scheduled a 15-yard roll off to get rid of garbage that people dropped off. And I don’t think that’s even going to be big enough,” Karenbauer said.
He also says the additional work is causing problems and also adding to St. Vincent’s operating costs.
“We’re a non-profit organization trying to do good for the community and these are expenditures that we have to have to try and keep our community looking good,” Karenbauer said.
Ultimately Karenbauer is hoping people will hear the message and stop dropping the garbage off behind the store.
