An event coming up later this week will extend a helping hand to local veterans struggling with issues like homelessness.
Stand Down Butler will take place Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tanglewood Center in Lyndora. The first hour is for veterans only.
Organizer Roy Ramone explains.
“It’s really close to my heart because I’ve been there; I’m a veteran; I want to serve other veterans,” Ramone said. “It’s just a passion of mine. I’ve been helped and I want to pass that along to others.”
A number of vendors and other organizations will have representatives at this free event to share information about housing and homeless services, as well as mental and physical care. Flu shots will be offered from the Community Health Clinic. A hot meal will also be provided.
Allyson Rose is with Butler County Human Services:
“We usually have three of four different stylists volunteer their time from a variety of different agencies,” Rose said. “They are available to cut hair, beard trimming, or whatever is needed.”
This is the fifth year Butler has hosted a local event to mark the start of Homeless Awareness Month. Visit the website of the Butler County Housing Authority for more information. Anyone who is sick or has a fever is asked to please stay home.
