Pennsylvania health officials say that flu season is now underway, with more than 350 cases in the Commonwealth so far.
Officials also say there has been the first flu-associated death in the state.
Overall though, flu activity is relatively low right now, with only 26 of the 67 counties in the state reporting a case.
Officials encourage everyone to get a flu shot.
“As flu season is still in the beginning stages, now is the time to get your flu vaccine, if you haven’t already, and practice flu safety,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “It is more important than ever to get your flu vaccine amidst the COVID-19 pandemic to protect yourself, your loved ones, and health care workers who are caring for people sick with respiratory illness, from contracting the flu.
“We know that people who get the flu after being vaccinated have a less severe case and are not sick as long as those who do not get vaccinated,” Levine added.
Officials say if you do become sick with the flu, it is imperative that you stay home. Or if you are at risk for developing serious complications from the flu, or feel extremely ill, they encourage you to see a medical professional immediately.
