The minimum wage for state government workers makes a significant jump starting today.
Workers will now be paid a minimum of $15 per hour if they are employed by the Commonwealth.
The wage increase is for the public sector only, as private businesses are still subject to the state minimum of $7.25 per hour.
Governor Tom Wolf is urging the state legislature to increase that number to $15 per hour as well. The Republican controlled House and Senate have resisted calls for the rise in hikes—calling it too significant at this time.
