The Pennsylvania house voted in favor of moving the 2024 Presidential primary up to April 16 earlier this week but, it seems unlikely to gain any traction in the state senate.
After passing the house by a vote of 104-99, Pennsylvania Senate Majority leader Joe Pittman (R-Armstrong/Indiana/Jefferson/ Westmoreland) has come out against bringing a vote to moving the primary election date.
Butler County County Commissioner Kevin Boozel is grateful that the house wants to act on issues but according to him it is just to late to move the election.
“Even that one week can change polling locations, poll worker availability. It could have a ripple effect on the entire election system,” Boozel said. “That would be of great concern to me going into 2024 knowing that we would have to adjust all of those things before we ever get into even starting the 2024 election.”
Butler County Election Bureau director Chantell McCurdy told our newsroom that she sees to many challenges in even moving the election even just one week. But the office will be prepared no matter the date.
