While the official winter season is still over a month away, the temperatures are falling and we’ve already seen some snow showers.
State officials are taking this time to remind drivers about the dangers of snow squalls.
“Snow squalls produce quick hitting, intense brief bursts of snow lasting in the order of minutes,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Greg Davior said. “Producing blizzard conditions and extremely dangerous highway travel despite generally minor snow accumulation.”
“One of the most dangerous aspects of snow squalls is their ability to produce flash freezes on highways.”
They encourage all drivers to take heed of snow squalls warnings when they arrive. If you find yourself in dangerous conditions, slow down, increase your following distance, or pullover in a safe location.
