It’s a great weekend to enjoy some outdoor activities at our local State Parks.
First, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. a Salamander Safari is planned on Hell Run Creek at McConnells Mill State Park. This family activity promises fun and discovery. Participants should meet at the Hells Hollow Trail parking lot, dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water.
Then, the Muddy Creek Oil Field Living History exhibit at Moraine State Park will be open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Park Road. Volunteers will operate the antique engines and answer questions as part of this free event.
Also on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, the Park Naturalist will lead a program called Glaciers & the Ice Age about how time changed the landscape at McConnells Mill State Park. All ages are welcome on this guided hike on Alpha Pass Trail to the historic grist mill, but the trail is moderately difficult. Meet in the Point Parking lot, wear sturdy shoes or boots, dress for the weather, and bring a snack and water.
Finally, McConnells Mill is hosting a From Grain to Bread Program on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gristmill Courtyard. Participants will be able to learn the basics of baking bread and buckwheat pancakes from the Gristmill Baker.
All current health guidelines will be followed.
