Some Pennsylvania State Police officers will be going “undercover” on Tuesday and Wednesday, watching for speeders in Indiana County.
The effort is called “Operation Yellow Jacket.” Troopers will be inside PennDOT vehicles parked alongside highways in Indiana County and radio to other troopers if they see a speeder or a driver not obeying the Steer Clear law, which requires that drivers approaching an emergency response area pass in a lane not adjacent to the emergency response area, if possible; or, if passing in a nonadjacent lane is impossible, illegal or unsafe, pass at a careful and prudent reduced speed.
This program, which has been in place for several years across Pennsylvania, allows our agencies to work together to keep our highways safe for everyone, including emergency responders and highway maintenance workers, according to officials.
It’s unclear if State Police will bring “Operation Yellow Jacket” to Butler County.
