In the midst of the ongoing opioid crisis in Pennsylvania and across the country, State Police are encouraging residents to get rid of unwanted prescription drugs.
‘Drug Take Back Boxes’ are located inside the lobbies of several state police stations- including inside the Butler Barracks in Butler Township. Residents can drop off unwanted or unneeded prescription medications at any time of the day or night.
Boxes are also located inside the Kittanning, Beaver, Mercer and New Castle barracks.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has said eighty percent of heroin addicts start with the abuse of prescription drugs and the vast majority of those who misuse these drugs get them from friends, relatives or a medicine cabinet. In July, Butler was identified as one of the 12 Pennsylvania counties hit hardest by the opioid epidemic.
