A bill put forward by a local lawmaker would protect gun owners during statewide declarations of emergency.
State Senator Scott Hutchinson has introduced Senate Bill 36 to amend current law in order to protect the Second Amendment rights of responsible gun owners.
The current law allows the Governor and local officials to ban carrying legal firearms on a public street or property during a disaster declaration. The Governor also has the ability to limit or suspend the sales of firearms during an emergency.
This controversy was sparked last week when Governor Wolf declared a state of Emergency due to the opioid epidemic.
